HOMESTEAD FBLA SHINES AT THE 2019 BAY SECTION LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

 

Cupertino, California – Homestead High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) started the year with a victory at the 2019 Bay Section Leadership Conference (BSLC). Hosted at Westmoor High School, in Daly City, CA, on February 9, 2019, the Bay Section Leadership Conference is an annual competition where students from 25 high schools and 4 middle schools across the Bay Area display their knowledge of business topics through competing in areas such as entrepreneurship, technology, and public speaking. Out of the 119 students competing, 81 students placed in the top 10 and a total of 14 first places out of 38 competitions. 65 Homestead students qualified to compete at the State Leadership Conference which will be held in Sacramento, CA from April 25-28.

Homestead FBLA also congratulates Roma Bedekar, who was voted onto the 2019-2020 Bay Section officer team as Bay Section President and Darren Hsing who was voted to be Vice-President Outreach.

 

VP of Technology Competitions, Darren Hsing expresses his gratitude:

“Bay Section was a phenomenal experience not only because of the spectacular achievements by our competitors, but because everyone was reunited as a chapter. I am truly honored to see everyone’s hard work and dedication pay off. I am also extremely proud of each and every one of our competitors. I look forward to seeing our competitors excel at the State Leadership Conference in April.”

 

The conference runs on a point system where first place winners receive 10 points, second place receives 9 points, and all the consecutive places after receive a point decrease up to tenth place. This year, in comparison to the other competitive high schools, Henry M. Gunn High School received 141 points, Monta Vista High School received 178 points, Cupertino High School received 210 points, and Lynbrook High School received 256 points. For the 22nd consecutive year, Homestead High School placed 1st in sweepstakes earning an astonishing 476 points and 62 members advancing to the State Leadership Conference in Sacramento, CA.

 

Homestead FBLA attributes its continued success to all the advisers, mentors, and officers who dedicated their time and effort toward helping Homestead competitors prepare.
