HOMESTEAD FBLA ACHIEVES TOP NATIONAL RANKING AT 2018 NATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
Cupertino, CA — Homestead High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) continued to excel at the National Leadership Conference, which took place from June 28th to July 1st, 2018, in Baltimore, MD. Homestead High School followed their 20th consecutive state championship in Ontario, CA, with the overall number one ranking at this year’s National Leadership Conference. Over 9,000 of the nation’s highest achieving high school students demonstrated their talents as future business leaders by competing in over 70 competitive events. These events ranged from business-related events, such as Accounting, to technology-oriented events like Mobile Application Design. In addition to competing, FBLA members had the opportunity to network with students from across the nation by attending workshops, general meetings led by national officers, as well as visiting the campaign booths of national officer candidates.
Out of the 81 Homestead students competing, 53 competitors in 24 events received national recognition by placing in the top 10 of their events. Homestead had two national championships: Anne He, Brandon Hong, and Venkata Muriki in Banking and Financial System, and Valerie Hu, Grace Kim, and Helen Rhee in Entrepreneurship. The competitions are scored on a point system, where first place receives 10 points, second place receives 9 points, and all the consecutive places after receive a point decrease down to tenth place. In total, Homestead earned 144 points, while the closest runner-up, Northview High School from Georgia, earned 123 points.
