About

Project Initiate is the name of the Community Service Project of Homestead High School. Each year, the Community Service Project chooses different needs of the community and works throughout the year to improve that aspect of the community. This year’s project chairs, Helen Rhee and Grace Kim, are working to educate the community members about the importance of health and the various aspects of it. Many people of this affluent community are stressed because of their overloaded schedules, and fail to take the time off to take a step back and relax.

Throughout the year, Project Initiate organized many events and meetings on-campus at Homestead High School and around the community to promote their cause of increasing the amount of regular exercise, balanced eating, and de-stressing. Some of the noteworthy events include the on-campus Yoga Session, where dozens of students gathered in the Small Gym during their lunches to do yoga led by a certified yoga instructor. Another was the series of Sports Equipment Drive’s that were held on-campus and around the community. In total, Project Initiate collected 1,055 items of sports equipment to donate to Ravenswood Youth Athletics Association (RYAA) and the six underfunded elementary schools of Ravenswood City School District for their physical education program. Besides these events, they have volunteered at charity walks, presented at libraries and different schools, and hosted interactive programs that educate youth about health.

Initiate: A Speaker Series on Change addresses this problem of constant work, and the powerful speakers will offer insights on how you can initiate a change in your life to de-stress, take that time off, and develop the positive attitude that is so crucial in everyday life. The 30-minute Q&A; session at the end of the program will allow you to even ask the speakers any personal question that you may have. Everyone is welcome, and we invite you to come and learn about how you can use positive attitudes to impact your life!
