Dear Members, Thank you if you came to the FBLA meeting today. Mandatory Speaking Event Meeting: Wednesday, January 13th, at tutorial in A207. Open Events: –Database and Spreadsheet: Tryouts tomorrow, January 13th during tutorial and brunch in room A206 (Mr. Kwong’s room) -FBLA Principles and Procedures, Business Calculations, Economics, Business Procedures, Parliamentary Procedure, and Personal Finance: Tryouts this Friday, January 15th during tutorial and brunch in room A209 (Mr. Logie’s room) -All make up competition practice tests and tryout tests: Make ups this Friday, January 15th during lunch in room A207 (Mr. Lee’s room) Please note that in order to compete, you must be a registered member and have three hours of involvement with FBLA. These three hours may come from volunteering, projects, or socials. Also, Disneyland is having a Get a Day, Give a Day program where if you volunteer one day through the HandsOnNetwork (the actually volunteering is in the local, Sunnyvale, San Jose, Cupertino area) , you can receive a free Disneyland ticket which is conveniently next to FBLA state. Unfortunately, volunteering with Get a Day, Give a Day, requires you to be registered by your parents so FBLA cannot officially organize anything. However, if you do your volunteering with the HandsOn, we will accept that for hours of involvement. It is just a cool opportunity we thought you might be interested in: https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/disneyparks/en_US/WhatWillYouCelebrate/index?name=Give-A-Day-Get-A-Disney-Day Congratulations and Happy 16th Birthday Andrew Ng! Frequently Asked Questions about Speaking Events *Thank you to everyone for signed up for speaking events! Due to the high demand, tryouts have been extended to three dates: from November 2-4. Job Interview tryouts will take place that Thursday on the 5th. *Speaking event tryout time slot sign-ups have been posted outside A207. You must sign up by noon on Friday, October 30 in order to receive a slot. We can't wait to see you at tryouts! - How does Job Interview work? Turn in a resume to my box (Alissa's box) in A207 by Monday, November 2. A sample resume can be found here: https://hhsfbla.com/index.php?option=com_jdownloads&Itemid;=38&task;=view.download&cid;=756. The members who submit the top five resumes will be notified on November 3 and scheduled to come in for an interview on November 5. Please note that job interview has nothing to do with the individual speaking tryouts on the 2nd-4th.
- I'm confused about Business Financial Plan, Banking and Financial Systems, and Business Presentation. What's going on? Tryouts for these events will take place a bit later than the other events. Don't worry, if you put one of these events on your competitions request form, we will contact you via email with details later on.
- What events give speeches from the 2nd-4th? GLOBAL BUSINESS, MANAGEMENT DECISION MAKING, BUSINESS ETHICS, EMERGING BUSINESS ISSUES, PUBLIC SPEAKING I, PUBLIC SPEAKING II. These are the only events, regardless if another event has a speaking portion.
- How many speeches do I give from the 2nd-4th if I am trying out for multiple events? You give one speech regardless if you are trying out for one event or all six of them. You sign up only once.
- What if I am trying out for both an individual and team event? Which prompt do I do? There are two different prompts for individual and team events. If you prefer Public Speaking I or II over the team events, use the individual event prompt. Otherwise, use the team event prompt. Remember, if you are trying out for any of the team events, you can't do the Individual event prompt. Use the prompt for the event you want most. You can find a copy of the speaking tryouts handout here: https://hhsfbla.com/index.php?option=com_jdownloads&Itemid;=38&task;=view.download&cid;=755.
- Where do I sign up? How long do I have for tryouts? What if I can't make it? AH! You sign up outside of Mr. Lee's room on the sheet posted. You have until noon on Friday, October 30 to sign up. If you do not sign up in time, you will not get a spot.
- I'm confused about [insert concern here]. What do I do? Most of the answers will be on the speaking tryouts handout. These are inside Mr. Lee's room and on the website. If you have any additional answers, feel free to contact me at:
